Stanley Kubrick's 1980s ‘The Shining’ has been named a cult classic and one of the best horror films of all time. Although there's a lack of gore and guts, the vulnerability and instability evident within our three main characters is unmatched. Kubrick's strict directing style clearly pays off with his infamous a hundred plus takes of the iconic scenes, this film is creepy yet visually pleasing. The psychological horror was based on Stephen King's novel in which his own stay at the Stanley hotel brought him nightmares, influencing our young character Danny. This horror film specialises in a series of filmography techniques to create the distrusting atmosphere, however the corrupt family lifestyle constant mental breakdown of our ‘final girl’ Wendy has been rumoured to take a toll on the actresses own mental health and some critics see it as simply unscary. Is Kubrick the mastermind we have him painted as?
